During the trek along the river, one can explore the historic Koreshan State Park. This pioneering compound was home to the modern founders of Estero, an eclectic, turn-of-the-century, religious order who advanced ideas on cosmology while striving to establish an utopia they called “The New Jerusalem.” The Koreshans believed that, one day, people from around the world would come to Estero, enthralled by its beauty and peaceful way of life. While some of their theories never panned-out, their ideas on Estero have certainly come to pass. At the Koreshan Park, one can explore the gorgeous gardens as well as living quarters, lecture halls and other common areas of this fascinating historical site situated beside the Estero River.
